Thursday 23rd February saw the second annual Opportunities Ahead careers fair in the Guildhall, Cambridge. Storm Doris did her worst, but we were still able to inspire over 300 students with career paths such as engineering, public services, medicine and construction.
Throughout the day students were able to attend masterclasses. Louise and John from Elite Leadership Development ran sessions on self branding in relation to interviews, Zohaib Ahmed from Cambridge Regional College gave advice to students on optimising their CVs and Sarah Stones from Plain Sailing spoke to students about how different types of people are motivated in different ways, and how to tailor revision to suit. All were very well received and students walked away feeling more energised and motivated.
In the main hall, students enjoyed interacting with exhibitors through activities such as using an infrared camera to see heat in their classmates with LGC Group, taking a selfie with Cambridge BID and becoming friends with Indiana Bones, a skeletal member of the NAPP Pharmaceuticals team. In the side room, Cambridge Regional College promoted teamwork with a blind-fold obstacle course with the public services team, while MRC had students cracking mitochondria code to convert food into energy!
Aneeka Barmi from The A14 said of the event; “I only really appreciate the work I do when I explain it to others, this event helps me to develop as well as sharing careers information and inspiration to our next generation”.
