On 12 February, Cambridge LaunchPad Committee Partners TTP hosted their first exciting Project Day of 2025 for students from Comberton Sixth Form and Cambridge Maths School.
With the support of TTP professionals, student teams competed to design and pitch a new concept for a fat-grafting surgical tool. They practiced basic injection methods before brainstorming ideas aimed at enhancing comfort, precision, and reducing fatigue. The project is inspired by TTP’s work in the medical technology field, offering students a snapshot of a true ‘day in the life’ of a scientist or engineer at TTP.
A wide array of materials was available for creating prototypes, encouraging students to think outside the box and apply their imagination and product design skills. Their innovative designs, from flexible frame-mounted devices to fibreoptic-tipped syringes allowing for better visibility when operating, showcased remarkable problem-solving and design skills.
The day culminated with each team pitching their concepts to a panel of TTP judges, highlighting the hard work and dedication they demonstrated throughout the event.
“Because of this trip, I'm going to look into work experience opportunities within the STEM industry"

Students were also given an inspiring tour of TTP’s offices, labs, and engineering workshops. This behind-the-scenes experience allowed them to witness the inner workings of a company with a diverse range of STEM professions all under one roof.
“It was inspiring to see the students dive headfirst into the challenge, demonstrating creativity and determination throughout the day. They fully embraced the opportunity to collaborate with our TTP professionals, engaging in thoughtful conversations and showing genuine curiosity about the industry. The partnership between TTP and Cambridge LaunchPad is incredibly valuable, as it allows us to inspire the next generation of innovators by giving them hands-on experience in a real-world STEM environment. What stood out most was the impressive quality and diversity of ideas presented during the pitches. The students showcased innovative thinking and a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, which made it incredibly difficult to select just one winning team. We hope this experience showed them the power of teamwork and the exciting possibilities within STEM careers.”
