INSIGHTS INTO CAREERS IN THE UNIFORMED SERVICES

The Insights into... series have been created as a means of engaging with young people in education whilst the pandemic prevents us from carrying out our usual in-school work. They are different from events you would have run with us in the past (though the core skill of being able to communicate your career pathway to young people remains the same) so we will be providing you with briefing materials and a short Q&A session in advance of the event.
We are asking volunteers to come representing the company they work for as well as to talk about their own career path. We would like you to talk about your own job, how you got there and the qualifications you needed, as well as explaining what your organisation does; we would also like the young people attending to be able to hear about the other types of roles and opportunities available in your organisation as well as the career pathways that might be taken to get there. For this reason we ask that where possible an organisation is represented by 2-3 staff, one of whom represents HR or Recruitment and is capable of talking about the wider picture within the company. If you are signing up in your own capacity, that's not a problem, we still want to have you, but please let us know so that we can discuss how to approach the event.
The event will follow the following structure:
- Participants join and FtF staff ensure that all tech issues are under control
- A brief introduction from FTF CEO Anne Bailey & explanation of which companies are represented
- 3 x 20 minute breakout sessions: you will deliver a brief talk + Q&A 3 times
- Concluding remarks by Anne Bailey and option of final questions from attendees
As a volunteer you are not required to prepare a presentation, however, if you wish to you can use a PowerPoint, show images or even a video as part of your 20 minutes.
We will be hosting the session on Zoom, if you are not familiar with the platform we can run you through how it works in advance. We will use the breakout room function to split each organisation into their own room; participants will be asked to select which room they join on each of the three sessions.
